Vulture has a first look at the new look poster at Steven Soderbergh’s digitally lo-fi high-end call girl film, “The Girlfriend Experience,” starring real-life porn star, 21-year-old Sasha Grey (it also features an appearance by film critic Glen Kenny as a sleazy online porn guy). See it with someone you **** is the tagline. Nice.
Not only does the poster work as an excellent tease for the film, it’s probably the most aesthetically pleasing movie poster we’ve seen this year (three cheers for some real design for once) and it’s aptly seductive and titillating in an awesomely abstract manner. It’s some first-grade marketing.
Shot in October 2008 right before the election and in the middle of the economic crisis, the film was shot for a down and dirty, $1.7 million in 16 days, and features a lot of improved dialogue that addresses the political and economic times of those moments.
Synopsis: “Girlfriend” details five days in the life of an ultra high-end Manhattan call girl who thinks she has her life totally under control. She feels her future is secure because she runs her own business her own way, makes $2000 an hour, and has a devoted boyfriend who accepts her lifestyle. But when you’re in the business of meeting people, you never know who you’re going to meet.
The film hit OnDemand via Magnolia on April 30 and then hits theaters on May 22. It will also screen at the Tribeca Film Festival which runs April 22- May 3.
