'House Of The Dragon': HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Spin-Off Premieres In August, Plus A New Look At The Cast

Fans have been dying for an answer about when we’re going to see the new “Game Of Thrones” spin-off series on HBO, and at best, all we’ve known for months is TBD, 2022. Well, a date has finally been revealed. The ten-episode HBO Original drama series “House Of The Dragon” will debut on Sunday, August 21, and will be available to stream on HBO Max.

Based on George R.R. Martin’sFire & Blood” novels, the series set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” tells the story of House Targaryen. There’s quite the stacked cast too. The principal lineup features Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.

Of course, that’s not all, as there’s a vast world of supporting characters. Some of those will be played by Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.

Credits on the series include Co-Creator/Executive Producer George R.R. Martin; Co-Creator/Co-Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer Ryan Condal; Co-Showrunner/Executive Producer/Director Miguel Sapochnik; Executive Producer/Writer Sara Hess; Executive Producers Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis and Ron Schmidt; Directors Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel; Director/Co-Executive Producer Greg Yaitanes.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as HBO has at least three or four other “Game Of Thrones” spin-offs in development, though that doesn’t mean they’ll all come to fruition. There were about four previous spin-offs in development already, and one starring Naomi Watts even shot a pilot. Still, it wasn’t up to snuff evidently, and HBO decided not to move forward with it.

Paddy Considine gets top billing on the show, and HBO has finally released the first photo of the English actor looking very blonde and Targaryen. Feast your eyes on these photos and be on the lookout for a trailer that will likely arrive soon. “House Of The Dragon” premieres this summer on August 21.
