Hulk to Be Villain in 'Avengers' Movie?

Following the success of “Iron Man” and the mediocre returns of “The Incredible Hulk,” Marvel Studios has set the ‘Avengers’ movie in motion.

The film won’t come out until the summer of 2011, after the upcoming Marvel projects, “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “Captain America” are released. None of this is new, but what is relatively new, is that the Hulk character himself could be the villain in the ‘Avengers’ movie.

Louis Leterrier, the director of the recent ‘Hulk’ suggested the same earlier this year.

Now, “Iron Man” writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who themselves may be writing another Marvel movie in the near future, couldn’t agree more. They told MTV News that the building blocks of the various stories are all moving in the same direction with the Hulk being the main unstoppable force of evil.

Fergus also talked about the Hulk villain possibility. “I hope ‘The Avengers’ embraces that,” Fergus explained about having the Hulk as more of an anti-hero. “You don’t want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where’s the fun in that? Let’s break it off a little. Friends or colleagues who become enemies is always an interesting thing because you know it’s based on love and friendship and that’s always the worst thing to have turn bad — is someone you actually care about and someone you actually believe in.”
The Hulk has fought nearly every single character in Marvel comics, so fans should be able to embrace this new turn. Where Edward Norton stands on reprising his role, we don’t know. We do know that he didn’t have the best time working on the film due to some creative differences, but then again a raving lunatic Hulk that doesn’t really turn human doesn’t really need Norton does it? The emerging storyline could be convenient for Marvel, Norton, the fans and everyone involved.

“I left the door open for whoever’s going to direct ‘The Avengers’ with our last shot. Edward [Norton] and I, we consciously decided to make the last shot of the movie when he opens his eyes and he smirks at the camera,” Leterrier told MTV in June. “Is he enjoying it? Is he malicious? That’s what’s great about Edward. You don’t know if he’s a good guy or bad guy. He’s always on this edge and we’ve been sort of surfing that edge, that very thin edge during the entire movie.”

We don’t think that it’s a bad idea to have Hulk as a villain. It could just work and now that the first stage of the Hulk has been set (let’s face it, not the deepest character on earth), phase two could be what he does best: smash shit up without the worry of silly elements like character or plot, you fucking pansy-waists.
