The Robert De Niro hit-to-miss ratio these days simply isn’t very good. For every “Silver Linings Playbook,” there are things like “The Big Wedding” and “Killing Season” (and that’s just in 2013). On the one hand, we’re kinda glad to see him working with a director of at least some weight in Luc Besson (though his best days seem similarly far behind him). We just wish the action-comedy “The Family” looked a bit more promising.
A new international teaser trailer has dropped for the movie and it zeroes in on the two dudes of the movie, Robert De Niro and Tommy Lee Jones. It’s the first time these two grizzly bears have worked together and certainly watching them square off will be a pleasure. But the movie? Well, it tells the tale of an American gangster and his family who are placed in the witness relocation program and shuttled off to France, where of course, they get into more trouble. Can Besson show the chops that made him a sensation years ago? Is this going to be another movie where both Jones and De Niro phone it in and collect paychecks? Even if so, it looks like Michelle Pfeiffer will be having a blast regardless.
“The Family” arrives on September 13th. [Bleeding Cool]
