'I Love You Phillip Morris' Directing Duo To Helm Steve Carell Comedy

John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, the writing and directing team behind “I Love You Phillip Morris” have been brought on board a currently untitled Steve Carell comedy for Warner Brothers.

The film, which sounds more like a dramedy than something like, say, “Date Night,” is about “a father whose life unravels as he faces a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children.” Um, sounds sort of like “Dan In Real Life” doesn’t it? The script is by Dan Fogelman (“Bolt,” “Cars,” “Fred Claus”) who got a cool $2 million for his spec script. Not too shabby.

As for “I Love You Phillip Morris,” the gay romantic drama starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor has earned accolades in some quarters, but due to the film’s content, its been slow to get picked up and distributed. It will finally be hitting theaters in what’s most certainly going to be a limited release on March 26th. Word is some of the more graphic content in the film will be cut as well. At the very least, this untitled comedy looks like far more populist ground for Requa and Ficarra.
