“I Think He Found It A Little Bit Hard”: Zack Sndyer On Chris Nolan's Reaction On Hearing About 'Batman v Superman,' Plus New Pics

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of JusticeAcross three films, Christopher Nolan not only relaunched Batman for Warner Bros., but he brought the character into the contemporary age. His version is a far cry from the rendition seen in Joel Schumacher‘s "Batman And Robin," and "The Dark Knight" trilogy stands as a towering achievement in the comic book movie realm. Nolan showed he had the insight to give the superhero satisfying dramatic depth, while providing audiences the big screen thrills they expect. So it’s no wonder that WB hung onto the director when they rebooted Superman with "Man Of Steel," with Nolan sliding into an executive producer role. But he moved on from the superhero fare afterwards, with Zack Snyder now heading up the braintrust for the studio’s DC Extended Universe. In a new chat with Empire, Snyder speaks about the moment he reached out to Nolan to let him know he was going to be creating his own take on Batman.

“You tell me if you don’t want me to do it,” Snyder said he told Nolan, who took a pause before answering, “Well, we don’t own these characters. When you’re done making Batman movies, someone else will [make them].” It’s a logical response, but Snyder is right in assuming Nolan likely had a lot of mixed emotions.
“I think he found it a little bit hard. I would feel the same way,” Snyder added.

In "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice," Snyder will present an even more weary Batman in a movie that will feature more explosions than Nolan’s movies, and we’ll see how audiences respond to that. "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" opens on March 25th.
