'Ida Red' Trailer: Josh Hartnett, Melissa Leo, Frank Grillo & More Star In John Swab's Crime Thriller

The “one last job” trope has been used in crime films for decades. But sometimes, a film can rise above its routine premise and deliver something special. “Ida Red” hopes to be one of those films.

As seen in the trailer, “Ida Red” tells the story of a crime family that is hoping to pull off one last heist to help the matriarch get out of prison. However, as happens typically in this sort of film, the gang is also being pursued by law enforcement, hoping to catch them before they ride off into the sunset.

“Ida Red” features an ensemble cast that includes Josh Hartnett, Sofia Hublitz, William Forsythe, Deborah Ann Woll, George Carroll, Mark Boone Junior, Beau Knapp, Frank Grillo, and Melissa Leo. The film is written and directed by John Swab, who also released the film “Body Brokers” earlier this year. That film also features a performance from the glorious Frank Grillo.

In our review of the film from this year’s Locarno Film Festival, we said, “The problem may simply be that the best gangster pictures have some guiding sense of intelligence…Here, no one seems capable of envisaging even the most immediate consequences of their increasingly vicious actions, and so where ‘Ida Red’ wants us to thrill to the idea of criminality as almost a genetic inheritance, a trait carried down a bloodline like blue eyes or freckles, in fact, all it really suggests is that this family might be really dumb, and actually quite bad at crime.”
