Idris Elba & Johnny Whitworth Should Know Better, In Negotiations For 'Ghost Rider 2'

Idris Elba who made badass look easy as Stringer Bell in “The Wire,” showed he can play a great straight man during his run on “The Office” and is set to make his biggest splash yet in the forthcoming crime thriller “Cross” (it’s about time he got a meaty leading film role), is in negotiations, along with Johnny Whitworth (“Gamer,” “3:10 To Yuma”), to waste his time and talents in “Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance.”

The campy, already cult-classic ready plotline will follow “Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Nicolas Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil (Ciaran Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal son’s body on the kid’s birthday.” That is sort of amazing in just how awful it sounds. Elba would play an “alcoholic warrior monk” who has to find Ghost Rider, while Whitworth will play a petty criminal seeking the boy and later turns into a demonic creature.

Elba and Whitworth would join the cast that in addition to Cage and Hinds, now also stars Violante Placido (“The American”) and we have to admit, our curiosity is piqued. The 3D film directed by “Crank” writer/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor will shoot next month in Romania and Turkey. [Heat Vision]
