Director Alex Holdridge made a splash back in 2007 with his feature, "In Search of a Midnight Kiss." That distinctly indie romantic comedy was both written and directed by Holdridge, won him an Independent Spirit Award and cropped up on a number of top ten lists as well. His followup effort is, in some quarters at least, highly anticipated and so it's encouraging to hear that we aren't too far away from seeing it.
After a 6-week shoot in the U.S., Germany and Montenegro, Holdridge has just wrapped his sophomore film "Meet Me In Montenegro." Holdridge himself stars in the comedy as a failed American writer who has a chance encounter with a failed European dancer (newcomer Linnea Saasen, with whom Holdridge also co-wrote the script) and the two start up an affair. Keira Knightley's former beau Rupert Friend ("The Young Victoria") plays the writer's best friend who is in a strained relationship with a character played by Jennifer Ulrich ("The Wave").
The film doesn't have a distributor yet, but is expected to be out of post-production later this year. We'd imagine that means it will be doing the festival circuit next year, and given the subject matter and locations we can see this playing both the U.S. festivals and some significant European events. We'll be keeping an eye on it. [Screen Daily]
