'Inglorious Basterds' DVD And Blu-Ray Hitting U.S. On December 15?

So are you chomping at the bit to get your Academy Screener, err… bare-bones “Inglourious Basterds,” DVD?

According to DenofGeek, their sources tell them the Quentin Tarantino DVD is being slated for a Monday December 14 U.K. release, with the U.S. receiving the film on the traditional Tuesday, making it that December 15.

Of course The Weinstein Company you’ll remember are rushing the Basterds’ DVD in time for Oscar season so they’ll save money on shipping specialized, watermarked DVDs to Academy members.

Win, win, right? If you say so. How much do you want to bet the DVD comes with a very limited amount of bells and whistles? Deleted scenes? Sure, you can probably get those. Scenes from Cannes? Yes, you can probably get those too, but just like the “Kill Bill,” DVDs, you know they’ll eventually be an ultimates edition release which will make this one obsolete.

Tarantino-ites will surely drop their cash regardless, but count us out. And if you were thinking of an Xmas gift, something else please. If things do turn out poorly for TWC (and we honestly hope they don’t), “Inglourious Basterds,” could turn out to be a case study why big box-office hauls might not save an ailing company in this economy. The film has grossed $231 million worldwide, but TWC is still suffering from layoffs and penny pinching anywhere they can get (see this DVD release plan).
