Interview: Mia Wasikowska Talks Working With Richard Ayoade & Jesse Eisenberg In "The Double'

The Double

At just 23, Australian actress Mia Wasikowska has already proven her impressive range. In roles spanning “In Treatment,” “Jane Eyre,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and “The Kids are All Right,” audiences have come to appreciate her gentle and elegant thoughtfulness, mixed at times with a wisdom seemingly beyond her years.

In Richard Ayoade’sThe Double,” which premiered this week at the Toronto International Film Festival (read our review here), she plays Hannah, an enigmatic and artistic young woman caught in a bizarre love triangle of sorts with two men who are outwardly identical, but polar opposites in how they interact with their dystopian world (both roles are played by Wasikowska’s boyfriend Jesse Eisenberg). We caught up with Wasikowska at TIFF, where we discussed working with the daring young director, Ayoade, her upcoming role in Sophie Barthes’Madame Bovary,” and the exciting subjectivity of responses to “The Double.” While you’re at it, you can watch our video interview with Ayoade here.
