Is Ben Foster Part Of The Cast For Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'?

Regardless of whether that plot synopsis from last night is legit or not (and Fox have denied it), we’re more excited for “Prometheus,” the sci-fi tale that seems to be set in the same universe as the “Alien” films, and that marks director Ridley Scott’s first science fiction movie since “Blade Runner,” than we thought we’d be, considering it started off as that most redundant of movie phenomenons, a prequel. Scott and writer Damon Lindelof have been talking a good talk about the originality of the film, and they’ve assembled quite the cast, with Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Guy Pearce and Logan Marshall-Green. And now it’s being alleged that another top actor has joined the cast.

JoBlo say that they’ve confirmed the presence of ever-rising actor Ben Foster among the cast, and, while there’s no word from the studio yet, the site are reliable enough that we’re willing to take their word for it. Foster’s had an interesting career so far, starting off as a teen star in the likes of “Liberty Heights” and “Get Over It,” but more recently taking scuzzy villain turns in “3.10 To Yuma,” “30 Days Of Night” and “The Mechanic,” and more notably playing the lead in the excellent, Oscar-nominated “The Messenger.”

He’s got a good selection of stuff coming up, as well, having now wrapped Oren Moverman‘s ‘Messenger’ follow-up “Rampart,” the Mark Wahlberg thriller “Contraband” and Fernando Mereilles‘ “360,” so a role in one of the most anticipated blockbusters of the year would pretty much put the cherry on the top of his 2012.

The top secret shoot is continuing for several months to come, so it’ll likely be some time before we start to see the fruits of Scott’s labor, although 20th Century Fox are one of the few studios still maintaining a presence at Comic-Con, so we may see a glimpse of the film there. But we’re certainly intrigued all the same. “Prometheus’ will hit theaters on June 8th, 2012, and here’s that official plot synopsis one more time for luck.

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
