As far as any associations that “Fringe” or “The Killing” might attempt, there would have to be quite an effort made to unseat David Lynch's legendary TV show, “Twin Peaks.” 22 years after Laura Palmer first disappeared, the procedural's fans still remain dedicated, and if recent rumblings are anything to go by, those over at ABC are hoping those core followers are indeed looking for more.
A number of loose strands have come together to hint at a third season of “Twin Peaks,” starting with co-creator Mark Frost saying that a new storyline is “something we talk about from time to time… If we ever do decide to move forward, I know we have a rich trove to draw from.” Then, the Twin Peaks Archive Twitter posted an anonymous account (taken from the 4chan message board) from someone supposedly inside NBC, who recounted a recent meeting Lynch took with executives to bring the show back.
The unnamed poster describes Lynch as wanting the original cast back (which includes Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Ontkean), for a story taking place in the present day, and a hands-on role at the center of the creative team (to which the execs apparently balked somewhat). Adding some credence to the unsubstantiated details, Frost has spoken about the present-day timeline, and also certain cast and crew members, like actress Catherine E. Coulson (“The Log Lady”) and writer/producer Robert Engels, have been contacted for a possible reprisal of their roles.
All this to say that these are rumors at this point, but a collection of not-entirely-illogical circumstances in which to explore them. Lynch has certainly dabbled in TV as of late, from brilliant guest appearances on not only “Louie,” but also “The Cleveland Show,” so why not trace back around to his signature television creation?
