The revolving door look at potential directors for further additions of the “Twilight” franchise keeps spinning.
This week it’s director David Slade (“Hard Candy,” “30 Days Of Night”), who is reportedly a new potential contender in line to helm the third installment of the “Twilight” saga, “Eclipse.”
Slade has apparently spoken with both the author of the series, Stephanie Meyer and Summit Entertainment president, Erik Feig though no deal has been apparently struck.
Previously, names like Juan Antonio Bayona and Drew Barrymore were floated as filmmaking possibilities, but no pitches have yielded official pronouncements from the studio as of yet (and Barrymore is officially out of the running).
Slade evinced convincing goth proclivities with his very respectable bloodsuckers film, “30 Days Of Night,” which demonstrated a strong blend of action, drama and tension, but will he be at home with the tween lusting-abstinence, dry-humping mien that permeates the vampire soap opera? Time will tell if he officially gets the gig.
Depending on who you believe, the 4th and final film in the series, “Breaking Dawn,” is either on the fast-track or is still in the early development stages. [Nikki Finke]
