Is Oscar Calling For Cate Blanchett? Watch 2 Clips From Woody Allen's 'Blue Jasmine' Plus New Pics

Blue Jasmine Cate Blanchett

It’s really kind of remarkable how Woody Allen has been able to keep a “one film per year” pace for pretty much his entire career. While it seems Allen has recently been following a pattern of making one great film every 3-4 years, it’s just been two years since “Midnight In Paris” (his biggest hit to date), and the buzz so far for “Blue Jasmine” has been very encouraging. Two new clips for the film have landed online and, the first one provides a nice glimpse into the main aspect of the film that everyone’s been talking about: Cate Blanchett’s performance.

“Blue Jasmine” features an incredible cast that, along with Blanchett, includes Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay, Peter Sarsgaard and Alec Baldwin. But it’s Cate Blanchett, in particular, that has gotten many people excited. Kris Tapley from Hitfix has touted her performance as being “probably the best performance in a Woody Allen film since Sean Penn in 1999’s ‘Sweet and Lowdown.’ ” Meanwhile Showbiz411 is calling her “a cinch for a Best Actress nomination.” Hot damn.

Blanchett plays the titular role in the film. Jasmine has been forced to move in with her sister Ginger, after her marriage to the wealthy Hal (Baldwin) falls apart. As she attempts to rebuild her life, she eventually comes to some realizations about who she really is. We listed “Blue Jasmine” as one of our most anticipated films for the month, surely the news regarding Blanchett’s performance only makes it more of a must-watch.

You can see what all the fuss is about when “Blue Jasmine” comes out on July 26th. Check out the Blachett-oriented clip at EW (we’ll add an embed when we can), along with another featuring co-stars Sally Hawkins and Louis C.K. (via Vulture) followed by some new images from the film.
