When he was asked straight out earlier this month on the February 8th Empire Podcast (while promoting the UK release of “Wreck-It Ralph”) whether his “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” cameo had been decided on yet, John C. Reilly was very non-committal. “I don’t know that I’m going to be in ‘Anchorman 2,’ ” he said. “I don’t know that there’s a spot for me or not. I have no idea. I think I’d almost prefer to just be an audience member and just enjoy it and not be part of it. But we’ll see…any chance to work with Will and Adam; I’d be a fool to pass that up.” Well, it looks like that chance has come up, and Reilly has elected not to be a fool and instead film a brief cameo in the highly anticipated sequel.
Ron Burgundy has already said “go fuck yourself, San Diego” by moving to New York for the sequel, but filming is actually getting underway in Atlanta, Georgia as we speak, and yesterday the following casting call went out from a local agency:
Do you look like John C. Reilly? We’re seeking a caucasian male, 6’2″, any age. THIS SHOOTS TOMORROW, FEB 28th. Please submit your stats and 3 photos to TeachMan2ATL@gmail.com with the subject line JOHNNY DOUBLE.
It doesn’t take the biggest leap to assume then that John C. Reilly is going to be shooting a scene for the movie today, with the last-minute casting call suggesting that they’ve probably had to squeeze it into his tight schedule. Reilly is filming the horror comedy “Life After Beth” alongside Aubrey Plaza this spring, which Plaza described last year as “a really fucked-up movie.” Chances are, though, the next time we’ll see Reilly up on the big screen will be on December 20th when ‘The Legend Continues.’ [Bleeding Cool]
