Justin Timberlake is hoping to make you laugh for a couple of months next summer. Columbia Pictures has announced that the forthcoming comedy “Bad Teacher,” where he stars alongside Cameron Diaz, has been moved from its previously slotted April date to June 17, 2011.
It’s clearly a vote of confidence from the studio and intriguingly, it now places the film square against “Green Lantern” opening on the same day. Perhaps studio heads saw the recent trailer for the superhero flick and, like we did, saw a potential underperformer on the way that they could steal audience members from. The intriguing premise of the film follows the life of a foul-mouthed junior high teacher (Diaz) who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, begins to woo a colleague (Timberlake) — a move that pits her against a well-loved teacher (Lucy Punch). Directed by Jake Kasdan (“Orange County, “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story“), the film boasts a pretty great supporting cast including Jason Segel, John Michael Higgins, SNL alum Molly Shannon and Thomas Lennon.
With “Bad Teacher” hitting in June, this now means Justin Timberlake will be toplining two big comedies next summer as he also has “Friends With Benefits” with Mila Kunis opening a month later on July 22, 2011. Directed by Will Gluck (“Easy A“), the film is a take on the sudden popular genre of friends fucking for fun and then realizing they might actually care about each other. While we’re already bored by the premise, we hope there is more there than meets the eye. In case you missed it, here’s the trailer.
