J.J. Abrams Promises Klingons Will Appear In 'Star Trek Into Darkness'

nullWith ”Star Trek Into Darkness” set to be released this summer, rumors surrounding the film just continue to swirl with diehard fans clamoring to get any sort of information regarding the sequel. As usual, J.J. Abrams has done his best to keep a tight lid on the project which is sure to leave fans both excited and frustrated. But for those who were wondering whether we’d get to see any familiar faces that weren’t in the first film, you can at least count on this: the Klingons will be back.

As Abrams told MTV News, “Their role in this is definitely adversarial and you’ll see how that plays out.” What exactly that entails could be anyone’s guess at this point. So what took so long for them to finally appear? Abrams talks about that in the interview as well, “We had shot some stuff [in the first film] that had Klingons and we cut the scene. It’s a deleted scene on the DVD. But they’re back in this one.”

But superfans also know that isn't exactly fresh news. Last summer, the always secretive Abrams snuck in a very quick, blink-and-you'll-miss-it look at the Klingons from 'Darkness" during a sketch in the MTV Movie Awards (see above). It was included intentionally as a tease for fans, and while Klingon talk died down since then, it looks like there will be a lot more for Captain Kirk to tangle with than just John Harrison.

Hopefully, knowledge that the Klingons will be returning will make fans even more pumped for the upcoming sequel than they were before. With “Star Trek” being as successful as it was, “Star Trek Into Darkness” is surely the most widely anticipated Trek film to date. We’ll see whether it’ll live up to everyone’s expectations when it comes out on May 17th.
