J. Jonah Jameson Apparently Won't Appear In The 'Spider-Man' Reboot

Way back in the fall, rumors started circling that John Slattery (“Mad Men“) and Sam Elliott were among a number of actors in contention for the role of the Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson. Well, it appears those rumors were erroneous and/or the game plan has changed.

IGN reports that that the fiery boss of the young photog/super hero won’t be in the film at all. If it’s true, it’s kind of a bummer considering he’s a fun and prominent figure in the comics and while it’s not yet known why he’s not around (maybe Peter Parker is too busy with school? maybe he’s discovered the wonderful world of blogging?) it’s an interesting development and shows that Marc Webb isn’t entirely beholden to the comics or previous big screen incarnations. However, as set photo above displays, The Daily Bugle hasn’t been forgotten entirely so we’ll have to wait and see how it enters the new world being created on screen.

At any rate, J.K. Simmons was the only J. Jonah Jameson in our mind so perhaps the film dodged a bullet. Filming is underway with a release date set for July 3, 2012.
