According to Deadline, Jack Black is the latest actor to join the forthcoming “Borderlands” film from director Eli Roth and Lionsgate. The film is an adaptation of the popular video game franchise that combines comedy and action to tell the story of a far off planet and the various ridiculous characters that inhabit it and do battle. In the film, Black is set to voice the robot, Claptrap.

“I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth,” Roth said. “Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen.”

Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, added, “We couldn’t have been more in sync with our filmmakers and casting executives as we approached this role. It’s one of the biggest no-brainer casting decisions we’ve ever made. Everyone who’s ever played the game knows Jack is perfect for this part. We’re thrilled he will add his endless comic energy and voice to our film – he’ll bring so much to the movie.”

In addition to “The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” Black has recently been seen in the massively popular “Jumanji” film franchise, as well as “Goosebumps.” He is joining a surprisingly stacked cast for “Borderlands” that includes the aforementioned Blanchett and the recently-announced Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis.

“Borderlands” doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s probably looking like 2022 is when we might see the film in theaters.
