Wait, are they really calling the movie formerly known as "Moscow," and then "Untitled Jack Ryan Movie" plain old "Jack Ryan"? Is this movie about an accountant who can find a way to get you even bigger return next year? What about something like the badass titles of yesteryear like "Clear And Present Danger," "The Sum Of All Fears," and "The Hunt For Red October"? Bleh. Let's hope this is just a holding pattern and that Paramount change their minds, but anyway, the movie has a release date.
The studio has slated "Jack Ryan" for a Christmas Day 2013 release, pitting it against Universal's troubled "47 Ronin" and Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty." So in short, it's a good counterprogramming move. The franchise reboot will be resting hits hopes on Chris Pine in the lead role (who hasn't really proven himself to be a bankable topline star outside of "Stark Trek"), Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Kenneth Branagh in the villain role, and who will also be directing. The story will center on a pre-CIA Jack Ryan working in Moscow, who has to stop his boss (Branagh) when he finds out he plans on destabalizing the American economy with a deadly attack. The studio obviously hopes that not only is it a franchise starter (with talk already of a trilogy), but can also lead to a spinoff based on Costner's character William Harper, who recruits Ryan into the organization (Paramount also wants the actor and character to appear in their other Tom Clancy adaptation "Without Remorse").
Anyway, can we start brainstorming new movie titles for this one now? How about "The Sum Of All Financial Projections Is Zero"? Or "Clear And Present Derivatives"? "The Hunt For Red October Mortagage Savings"? [Box Office Mojo]
