Rumor: Jake Gyllenhaal Is Matt Reeves' Choice For Batman

Well, that didn’t take long. The rumors had just surfaced that Matt Reeves wasn’t eyeballing Ben Affleck for his “The Batman” (or its possible trilogy), and that he had somebody else in mind. Well, now that name has surfaced.

According to John Campea, who is the source of all this stuff, Jake Gyllenhaal is the actor that Reeves wants wearing the cape and cowl. Gyllenhaal is a great actor, but just nine years younger than Affleck — what’s the major difference? I suppose any casting change allows Reeves to ditch following the DCEU storyline, which according to Campea, is exactly what the director wants to do. His film(s) will apparently be a standalone, apart from the main universe, which will probably be just fine with DC anyway, who are going down the path of non-continuity pics.

The deal for Gyllenhaal is reportedly far from close, though it’s apparently being discussed at Warner Bros. As for Affleck, Campea claims his decision to leave the DCEU was finalized earlier this year, though again, it’s just a rumor, and obviously, nothing formal has been announced. However, it’s easy to understand why Warner Bros. wouldn’t want an official announcement of Affleck’s exit eating up the press run for “Justice League” (though the actor was forced to address that chatter anyway).
