James Cameron wants to pimp NASA’s ride. The director has encouraged NASA to strap a 3D camera to its Mars rover Curiosity. No word yet if the 3D camera will be readied in time for a 2011 launch, but the prospect of NASA personnel sitting in the control room wearing 3D glasses is hilarious/awful.
Is the cast of “Superbad” reuniting for the MTV Movie Awards? In a cryptic tweet by Christopher Mintz-Plasse he says “Filming a promo for the MTV Movie Awards tomorrow. With some characters you will remember. Don’t forget to try and laugh when you see it.” A few more seconds of McLovin’, Seth and Evan? We wouldn’t say no to that.
“Easier With Practice” director Kyle Patrick Alvarez will be adapting the David Sedaris short story “C.O.G.” into a feature film. Taken from the collection Naked, the story is based around Sedaris’ experiences cutting stones into clocks in the shape of Oregon. The script is in the can and Alvarez is seeking financing.
Here’s something that’ll give you cavities: indie powerhouse film “Little Miss Sunshine” is now being prepped as a stage musical. We predict this will be terrible, but are kind of curious to see the song-and-dance number staged around the heroin overdose. Fun!
A feature film version of the documentary “King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters” is still a bit of a way off, says director Seth Gordon. Speaking with Collider he said, “I’m doing a film for them this summer, New Line, so once that one’s done is the soonest I can do it. That’s all I can, I don’t know. It’s, it’s a passion project for a handful of people at New Line and we, you know, we’d hope that it can become a movie, but the odds are stacked against it, you know?” Not exactly promising, but then again, the doc is perfect as is and a feature adaptation sort of seems redundant/unnecessary.
John Singleton continues his slide from insightful urban dramas to B-movie dreck, signing on to direct the action thriller “Layover.” The movie is about an “ex-con whose family is kidnapped by a group of corrupt TSA agents while on a seven-hour layover.” We liked this movie better when it was called “Die Hard 2.”
Tribeca Film Festival attendees have voted for the Spirit Of The Festival Award and the grand winner is the prog-rock doc “Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage.” You can see the full list of winners here.
Roman Polanski has broken his silence regarding the ongoing drama surrounding his legal case, saying he wishes “only to be treated fairly like anyone else” and that the extradition proceedings are “founded on a lie.” Switzerland has still not decided whether or not to extradite Polanski and proceedings are expected to take at least a year as the case works its way through the legal system.
Check out this bizarro ad starring Mickey Rourke for some Dutch non-alcoholic beer. Hard to tell if Rourke actually knew he was in a commercial or not.
