James Cameron To Re-Release 'Titanic' 3D In April, 2012

Conversion 3D sucks you say, just look at how horrible “Clash Of The Titans” looked?

Granted that conversion 3D was particularly bad, and yes, upping 2D-shot films into 3D looks pretty lame and filmmakers like Christopher Nolan and possibly even Zack Snyder are not sold on the process yet (Nolan wouldn’t be rushed for “Inception” and decided against it and Snyder may not 3D-ize his next picture, “Sucker Punch”).

Even James Cameron, one of the few people who has shot authentic 3D with “Avatar” is against it. So wait, what about his plans to three-dimensionalize “Titanic” — the ultimate hypocrisy?

Maybe not – the filmmaker will wait until April 2012, the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking to release his 1997 blockbuster in 3D. Two years for the technology to improve? We must admit, it’s a smart move and one that’s probably very Cameron as he is a stickler for visual and effects quality control (with scripts maybe not so much). “Titanic” is the second-highest grossing worldwide release of all time (after Cameron’s own “Avatar”) having had grossed $1.8 billion in total. The film was nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won 11, including Best Director and Best Picture. [LATimes]
