Production begins on “Avatar 2”! Ok, not really but in what is a first step for the film which is still likely a couple of years off, The Australian reports that Australian engineers are busy equipping a deep sea vessel so James Cameron can plumb the depths of the 11km Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean.
As has been known for the past little while, “Avatar 2” will take place in the oceans of Pandora and true to his quest for perfection, Cameron will equip the vessel that’s going to the depths of the 11km deep Mariana Trench (it could fit Mount Everest, just to give you an idea how large it is) to take 3D footage of whatever is down there. He hopes to use the footage to bring attention to the environmental crisis facing the world’s waters and, oh yeah, he might just CGI some shit in there for his sequel too. It will only be the second time in history a person has gone to the floor of the trench, with a Swiss scientist achieving the feat back in 1960.
“We are building a vehicle to do the dive,” Cameron told the Russian press. “It’s about half-completed in Australia.” With the two-seater vessel still awaiting completion, the dive is expected to take place early next year. Say what you will about Cameron, but he is using his vast wealth to do some pretty interesting stuff.
No word yet on when “Avatar 2” will officially begin production, but considering that Cameron likes to keep pushing new technologies forward, don’t expect it to be done on the quick.
