You may need to read over our feature The Lost, Unmade & Abandoned Projects Of Director David Gordon Green to give you a reminder, but at one time the filmmaker was attached to direct "Goat," with Emile Hirsch linked to star (he would later work with the actor on "Prince Avalanche"). It didn’t come to pass, but now James Franco (who Green worked with on "Pineapple Express" and "Your Highness") is picking up the baton.
Franco will produce, and Andrew Neel ("King Kelly") will direct the adaptation of Brad Land‘s memoir about "a 19-year-old boy who enrolls into college with his brother and pledges the same fraternity. What happens there, in the name of ‘brotherhood,’ tests the boy and his loyalty to his brother in brutal ways." The production will use Green’s script as the foundation, with Neel and his "King Kelly" co-writer Mike Roberts giving it a pass. No word yet on when it might film. [The Wrap]
Shane Meadows is now in production on "This Is England ’90." Following "This Is England," "This Is England ’86," and "This Is England ’88," it will "catch up with characters including Lol, Woody and Shaun as they enter the new decade, going from bowl haircuts and baggy jeans in the spring to taking ecstasy in the fields, forests and factories of England during the ‘summer’ of love – which soon gives way to a winter of discontent." The new batch of episodes will air in 2015 in the U.K. [Screen Daily]
It has been seven years since Emir Kusturica delivered a feature film, but he’s getting back in a business in a big way. He’s currently lensing "On The Milky Road," and next year he’ll get behind the camera for another new film. Kusturicia co-wrote and will direct an adaptation Primo Levi‘s "If Not Now, When?" The story follows "Jewish and Belarusian resistance fighters during the Second World War as they struggle to survive and sabotage the Nazis, with the plot taking them all the way from Western Belarus to Milan."
