James Franco Also Returns As Franco On ‘General Hospital’ Following The Oscars
James Franco has already portrayed James Dean in the appropriately titled television movie “James Dean” (see the awesome trailer below) so why not make a biopic about his onscreen pal Sal Mineo (“Rebel Without A Cause,” “Giant“)?
Franco has optioned the rights to “Sal Mineo: A Biography,” by artist and photographer Michael Gregg Michaud, as a potential vehicle to write and adapt. Mineo’s life was equally as tragic as Dean’s, as both of their lives were tragically cut short. Like Dean, Mineo was a hugely popular heartthrob who battled against being typecast in repeated roles as a “troubled teenager.” His life came to an end when he was murdered in the alley behind his home in a terrible case of wrong place/wrong time.
The acquisition marks another book that Franco has picked up this year including “Holy Land” and “The Adderall Diaries.”
No word on if or when he’ll get to this project, but Franco is a busy, busy man. He’ll be hosting the Oscars with Anne Hathaway (where he’s likely to be also nominated for “127 Hours“), the day after that he’ll be reprising his role on “General Hospital,” he’s currently shooting “Maladies,” he’s been linked to the new Noah Baumbach project “While We’re Young,” and has two films hitting next year: the medieval stoner comedy “Your Highness” and the tentpole “Rise Of The Apes.”
We’re already tired for the guy. And if you haven’t seen it, go check out “127 Hours” playing now in theater near you.
