There’s no denying that “Peacemaker” is doing pretty well for HBO Max. And even before the series debuted earlier this month, it seemed as if the streaming service was already primed and ready to go with a Season 2 of the James Gunn-led superhero show. Well, while we’re still not 100% sure “Peacemaker” is going to get a Season 2 renewal, Gunn has already begun teasing another DC superhero show that he is currently working on.
While talking to Deadline, on the Hero Nation podcast, James Gunn was asked about his upcoming projects with Warner Bros. Specifically, he was asked about the mystery TV series that he has been teasing, as well as the possibility of a “Peacemaker” Season 2. The filmmaker wasn’t keen on giving away too much about the new TV series that he is developing now, but he did confirm that it will be “The Suicide Squad”-adjacent.

“We’re working on something now, another TV show, that’s connected to that universe,” said Gunn about expanding more on “The Suicide Squad.” “I can’t quite say, but yeah, we’re working on something else.”
He added, “It is connected to [‘The Suicide Squad’] and…it won’t be the same genre, really, as ‘Peacemaker.’ It won’t be as much of a comedy as ‘Peacemaker’ is. But it’ll be in the same universe.”
When “The Suicide Squad” was released, there were some definite standout characters that fans wanted to see more of. In fact, judging by his reference to the series being less of a comedy, it does sound like perhaps there’s a Ratcatcher possibility, right? Played by Daniela Melchior, Ratcatcher 2 is a character that served as the heart of “The Suicide Squad” and seems like a character worth exploring on another series. Let’s be real, it’s highly unlikely Idris Elba or Margot Robbie are going to come back for an HBO Max series, right?
As for more “Peacemaker,” it does seem like that’s pretty much a done deal.
“There’s a really good chance of that,” said Gunn about “Peacemaker” returning for another season. “The show’s doing EXTRAORDINARILY well, right now. We all love doing it. We just have to cross some t’s and dot some i’s, which is basically me.”
You have to assume the issue with “Peacemaker” Season 2 might come down to scheduling, as John Cena is a very busy man, as is Gunn (who is currently working on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” as well as the “Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” for Marvel Studios). So perhaps we’ll just have to wait a little longer than anticipated for another batch of “Peacemaker” episodes, but it surely does seem like it’s bound to happen.
“Peacemaker” Season 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max.
