James Gunn Says 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Is "Definitely Connected" To 'Avengers 3' Plus New Images

Guardians Of The Galaxy

With Marvel plotting their cinematic map all the way to 2028, it’s not a surprise to learn that thoughts are already percolating about “The Avengers 3.” As folks know, Joss Whedon‘s Marvel contract expires after he drops “The Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” so we’ll have to see if he stays committed to the comic world that has earned his biggest success. But even if not, the path to the inevitable third movie is already being laid.

This summer, “Guardians Of The Galaxy” will be unveiled in what is said to largely be a standalone movie (compared to the other Marvel entries which have more direct ties to each other). But director James Gunn reveals there will be one key link, telling Entertainment Weekly his film “is definitely connected to ‘The Avengers 3.’ ” Of course, in what way exactly remains to be seen. As for ‘Galaxy,’ Gunn offered up another tease, this time about the villain Thanos, commenting he is “the head of the snake”—so we’ll see what that means.

“Guardians Of The Galaxy” arrives on August 1st. New images from the film below. [via MovieWeb]
