You may not remember, which is completely fine given the fallout, but back at San Diego Comic-Con, director James Gunn was on hand to debut a film at the Sony panel. The day before his scheduled appearance, we all know what happened. He was the subject of incredible controversy after being fired by Disney for offensive jokes that were tweeted a decade ago. Needless to say, Gunn didn’t show up to announce whatever film he had coming out.
However, that being said, it appears that Sony is moving forward with the film’s release. Sure, there’s no title. We don’t have a trailer, let alone any marketing materials. And we don’t even know the personnel involved. All we know is that James Gunn is involved in a horror/thriller and it is scheduled to release in November.
Screen Rant is reporting that according to an official release date schedule from Sony, Gunn’s latest film (that he’s most likely involved in as writer or producer, similar to “The Belko Experiment”) is on the calendar for a November 30 release via Screen Gems.
All we know about the film is from what he posted via his Instagram (which is a complete shitshow, if you read the comments btw). On July 17, right before his scheduled SDCC announcement, he posted a cryptic image showing an eerie symbol. This comes after a variety of posts that seemed to confirm actors like Elizabeth Banks, Jackson Dunn, David Denman, and Matt Jones as well as filmmaker David Yarovesky all being involved with the hashtag “#SpecialSecretHorrorProject.” Those posts were all made around April of this year.
Again, we have no idea what the plot might be. We have no idea when/if we’ll get a trailer. All we know is that, as of now, James Gunn’s secret horror film that he was involved with is scheduled for some sort of release in November. So, we’ll keep you posted.
