Some awards news to get your mind off the election if you’re trying to avoid social media for a few minutes. The Producers Guild of America announced today that three-time Academy Award winner and 22-time Emmy Award winner (not a typo) James L. Brooks will be honored with the organization’s Norman Lear Lifetime Achievement Award for Television at the 2017 PGA Awards this January.

Brooks is a legend in the television business having created and/or produced classic programs such as “The Simpsons,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Taxi,” “Lou Grant” and “The Tracy Ullman Show.” As a filmmaker, Brooks wrote, produced and directed Oscar favorites “Terms Of Endearment,” “Broadcast News” and “As Good As It Gets.” His other film producing credits include “Big,” “The War Of The Roses,” “Say Anything…,” “Jerry Maguire” and the upcoming “The Edge Of Seventeen.”
Previous winners of the Norman Lear Award include Shonda Rhimes, Chuck Lorre, J.J. Abrams, Lorne Michaels, Aaron Spelling, David E. Kelley and Lear himself, among others.
The 2017 PGA Awards will be held on Jan. 28, 2017, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
