Jamie Campbell Bower Wins Lead In 'The Mortal Instruments'

Sorry Team Speleers, Team Freeman (though was anyone rooting for this guy) and to a much lesser extent Team Pettyfer, another pretty boy has landed the plum role of the lead in “The Mortal Instruments.”

Deadline reports that Jamie Campbell Bower and his golden locks will take on the role of Jace Wayland in the franchise starting, star-making film. So who is this guy exactly? He made his acting debuting in Tim Burton‘s “Sweeney Todd” and racked up some serious franchise experience, both as nasty vampire Caius in the “Twilight” franchise and as evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” He’s also the co-lead in Roland Emmerich‘s ridiculous-looking “Anonymous,” playing the younger version of Rhys Ifans’ character and currently plays King Arthur in the Starz series “Camelot” alongside Eva Green and Joseph Fiennes (which reminds us: should we be watching that series?).

He will join Lily Collins in the adaptation of the popular young adult novel series by Cassandra Clare about a girl named Clary Fray (Collins) who has The Sight, and can see both demons and Shadowhunters. Jace himself is one of the latter and when Clary’s mother is abducted, she is forced to learn about her bloodline and abilities in order to get her mother back.

No word on when it will lens, but considering Collins toplines Tarsem‘s Snow White movie which is being fast tracked for a March 2012 release, we presume it’ll have to wait until that film wraps.
