**Spoilers ahead**
Just like “mother!” last month, the box office receipts for “Blade Runner 2049” might’ve missed the mark, but people can’t stop talking about the film. Denis Villeneuve‘s thoughtful sequel answers some questions, but leaves many more open.
One of the key enigmas of the film centers around the true nature of Harrison Ford‘s Deckard, with this identity as human or replicant remaining obscured or possibly blurred in the followup. However, there is one person who knows the answer: Jared Leto and his villainous Niander Wallace. However, he’s not about to provide any answers about who Deckard really is.

“Denis gave me quite a gift in the film, and this is a spoiler,” he told Rotten Tomatoes. “But in the film, I look into Deckard’s mind. I asked Denis, ‘So what do I see? Do I see the replicant? Do I see a human?’ He took a long pause, a very long pause, an eternity. He turned around and he walked a few paces. He came back to me and he said, ‘You know what? It’s your decision to make. Niander Wallace knows and only Niander knows.’ So that was kinda fun, and now I have that secret and I get to carry it with me to my grave.”
That’s right, the answer to the central question of the “Blade Runner” franchise is in the brain of Jared Leto.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if “Blade Runner 2049” will spawn any more pictures in the series. The box office results suggest that won’t be the case, but Leto is fired up for more if they happen.
“Selfishly, I’m really excited about it because I hope that means that maybe more films like this will get made and encouraged, and maybe there’ll be even more ‘Blade Runner’ prequels and sequels and spinoffs, because I love the ‘Blade Runner’ universe. For me, it’s ‘Star Wars,’ ” he said.
Well, it clearly wasn’t “Star Wars” for everyone, and we’ll have to see what the future holds.
