Jared Leto Gets Off The Stage, Replaces Gael Garcia Bernal In 'Dallas Buyers Club'

nullWe haven't seen Jared Leto on the big screen in a while (his last effort was 2009's "Mr. Nobody" slowly crawled its way to theaters worldwide over the last couple of years) mostly because he's been living the rock star dream of being your best friend's sister's favorite band. Somehow, Jordan Catalano became the frontman of 30 Seconds To Mars, and we've all suffered for it since. But thankfully, he's getting off the stage and back on screen, taking in a role in "Dallas Buyer's Club."

He'll join Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner and in the film based on the true story of Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and was only given months to live. With nothing to lose, he began experimenting with underground, non-FDA-approved drugs and wound up living longer than expected. He began getting these drugs into the hands of other AIDS sufferers as well, but it wasn't long before the FDA tried to shut him down. Leto will replace the previoiusly cast Gael Garcia Bernal (boo!), playing the cross-dressing AIDS patient who Ron meets in the hospital.

Production on the movie begins next week in New Orleans, which is remarkable in itself given how long this movie has been kicking around. Jean-Marc Vallée ("Café de Flore," "The Young Victoria") will direct and we can only presume this will be an awards contender for next year. [Deadline]
