It was five long years between the release of Sally Potter’s last two films, 2012’s “Ginger & Rosa” and last year’s “The Party.” However, the filmmaker isn’t about to take that long for her next feature film, as production has begun on a brand-new untitled drama with a stellar cast.
Bleecker Street and HanWay Films have announced that Potter has begun production on a new film that will feature the acting talents of Javier Bardem, Elle Fanning, Salma Hayek, Laura Linney, and Chris Rock. As mentioned, the film is still untitled, but will follow a turbulent day in the life of a father and daughter (the aforementioned Bardem and Fanning) as the young woman deals with her father’s apparently chaotic mental state.
Bleecker Street’s CEO Andrew Karpen said, “It’s such an honor to get to work with a visionary filmmaker like Sally Potter. She has crafted a beautiful and affecting script, and assembled an incredibly diverse and talented cast to bring it to life. We’re so excited to be partnered with our friends at HanWay, and look forward to working with them to share this film with audiences around the world.”
Potter is an acclaimed director of films such as the previously mentioned “Ginger & Rosa,” as well as “The Gold Diggers” and “Orlando.” Bardem has been busy recently, starring in the Cannes debut “Everybody Knows,” as well as the upcoming announced historical drama “Cortés.” Fanning has also had a pretty great lineup of projects recently, with “Galveston” and “I Think We’re Alone Now.”

There’s no release date for the untitled film, but with production underway, we could be seeing Potter’s new film in time for next fall’s festival circuit, or perhaps an early 2020 release.
Here’s the synopsis of the film:
The untitled drama follows 24 turbulent hours in the life of father and daughter Leo (Bardem) and Molly (Fanning) as she grapples with the challenges of dealing with her father’s apparently chaotic mental state. But as they weave their way around New York City, their ordinary but stressful day takes on a hallucinatory and epic quality, for Leo is seamlessly flowing in and out of several parallel lives; a passionate marriage with his childhood sweetheart Dolores (Hayek) in Mexico; a struggling career as a drummer in Manhattan with his more successful lover, Adam (Rock); and a life of solitude on a remote Greek island, where a chance encounter with two young tourists unmasks some uncomfortable truths…
