We are well aware that Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. have already begun casting the upcoming superhero film, “The Batman.” And boy, oh boy, the names that have been released have been nothing short of surprising and massive, such as Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and, of course, Robert Pattinson. But the latest casting addition might be the most surprising yet, even if it’s for the opposite reason.
According to Collider, Reeves has added another name to the growing cast of “The Batman,” but odds are, you’ve never heard of her. The report claims that recent Juilliard graduate, actress Jayme Lawson, has signed on for a role in the superhero film. The exact details of her role are unclear, but there’s no denying that this is a huge accomplishment for someone just getting out of school. So, in that respect, it’s pretty great.
“The Batman” is the most anticipated superhero film coming in the next two years, bar none. Directed by Reeves, who co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin, the film is expected to be the triumphant return of the character that was controversially used by Zack Snyder in the two films ‘Batman v Superman’ and “Justice League.” Though Ben Affleck is generally given a pass because of his acting as the character, many think that the best days of Batman ended with Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. Now, Reeves attempts to return the character to those glory days, and Lawson is now aboard for the ride.

WB has never been against bringing on new talent for the studio’s superhero films. Though she was involved in film and TV prior, Gal Gadot was relatively unknown before landing the role of Wonder Woman in ‘Batman v Superman.’ The same goes for Ray Fisher, who was cast as Cyborg for that film and “Justice League.” No offense to Fisher, who has found his role effectively written out of the current DCEU, but let’s just hope Lawson’s addition is more along the lines of Gadot.
Production on “The Batman” is expected to begin in early 2020, with a release date of June 25, 2021, set aside for the film.
