“JCVD” writer-director Mabrouk El Mechri will direct the thriller “The Cold Light Of Day” for Summit Entertainment and Intrepid Pictures.
Based on a script by Scott Wiper (“The Wire,” “Ransom”) and John Petro with Steve Zaillian producing, the film follows a young American whose family has been kidnapped while vacationing in Spain. The man has only hours to find his kidnapped family and uncover a government conspiracy linked to his family’s disappearance and his father’s secrets.
El Mechri was previously attached to an adaptation of French graphic novels, “The Insiders,” with Jessica Alba starring and Robert Rodriguez producing and is also executive producing the unnecessary Warner Bros.’ remake of Park Chan-Wook’s “Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance” though, thankfully, it looks like he’s going for his own spin on the every-man vigilante tale on “The Cold Light Of Day” instead. We hope so, anyway.
Shooting will begin in Spain in June.
