Jeff Bridges Won't Visit 'Great Hope Springs' With Meryl Streep; Looks Badass In Set Photo From 'True Grit'

It sounded like the perfect storm, teaming Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in a marital crisis drama with legendary director Mike Nichols, but alas, it is not to be.

Deadline says that even though reports said that both Bridges and Streep were closing deals to star in the film, the former’s involvement was “never firm” and that he won’t be starring in it. Streep is still in talks to star with Mike Nichols circling the director’s chair, but there will be some major holes to fill to get this thing moving. The film concerns a married couple who attend an intense counseling session over a weekend to save their marriage. A new husband will need to be found for Streep and the role of the counselor/doctor, at one time attached to Philip Seymour Hoffman, will also need to be cast.

At least our wait for more Bridges won’t be long; he will give audiences two Christmas presents in December appearing in “Tron: Legacy” opening on December 17th and in the Coen Bros.’ “True Grit” opening on Christmas Day. And the pretty badass picture above is a newer look at Bridges playing Rooster Cogburn (a role originally played by John Wayne). It’s not easy to pull off an eyepatch and a pocketwatch, but damn, Bridges looks like this is the kind of stuff he wears everyday (we’ve seen photos before, but they these are definitely new to us). The girl in pigtails is relative newcomer Hailey Steinfeld as Mattie Ross, from whose perspective the film will be told.
