Already bouncing from Chris Evans to Dominic Cooper to Jake Gyllenhaal — who dropped out exactly one day after news of his coming aboard hit the web — Albert Hughes has had a helluva time finding a leading man for "Motor City." But, in a nice stroke of luck, he might have landed on yet another quality leading man.
Twitch reports that Jeremy Renner has received an offer to join the genre thriller, so let's recap that plot again: Penned by Chad St. John, the hotly buzzed-about 2009 Black List script follows a small-time crook who is framed and sent to jail, and then goes after the guys that put him there. Amber Heard is on board as the gal, with Gary Oldman as the villain and if the script hasn't changed, the twist here is that Renner will have one line of dialogue in the whole thing. Damn. However, Renner is far from certain.
The actor is also in the mix for a part in Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" and if he has to choose between the two, well, it's pretty obvious which one he'll take. So really, it seems to be up to the deal not working out for "The Counsellor" for Renner to take "Motor City" so we'll have to wait and see how things play out. Dark Castle wants this movie to shoot ASAP, but without a leading man, that might prove difficult.
