“Kill the Messenger” is shaping up to possess one of the better ensemble casts for 2014. The true story of reporter Gary Webb (Jeremy Renner) is fraught with sadness and suicide stemming from Webb’s attempts to connect the CIA to the crack cocaine trade only to become the victim of a smear campaign. The film is being helmed by Michael Cuesta of “Homeland” fame, and already boasts a cast the includes “The Wire” badass Michael K. Williams and the recently announced Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
With production beginning in Atlanta, Georgia, the cast is getting finalized as more actors are being announced. The latest additions include Andy Garcia, Tim Blake Nelson, Barry Pepper and Michael Sheen in supporting roles, though no word yet on their characters. Fun fact: both Pepper and Sheen were cut from Terrence Malick‘s “To The Wonder.”
Anyway, with all the talent assembled, “Kill the Messenger” looks to be a serious awards contender come 2014, with a riveting story to boot.
