Jim Carrey Still Part Of The 'Three Stooges' Farrelly Brothers Film?

A small update from Benicio del Toro, about the Farrelly Brothers’ long-gestating, “The Three Stooges” film.

“Well, we’re not there yet, but the idea is still alive,” del Toro told MTV. “I can’t tell you that we have a date, But there is an ideal cast, and we’ll see what happens.”

When asked why bring the Stooges to the big screen, he answered, “Why? Why not? You know, I don’t know. Once I get that bowl haircut, maybe I’ll convince you. If that whole group of actors — the other two actors that they’re talking about — if they do it, I’m definitely going to be there,” Del Toro promised. “Jim Carrey and Sean Penn. But nothing is for sure; it’s not locked.”

That seems to suggest Carrey is still part of the discussions, yes? But last we all heard from Bobby Farrelly, who had talked to local Boston press, Carrey’s involvement originally may have been overstated or not even real. The Boston Herald wrote, paraphrasing the director, “There was word, way back when, that Jim Carrey was interested. But Bobby claims otherwise.”

We love Benicio, but have you ever seen him in an interview? He’s not always entirely lucid and he jumps around from topic to topic, like a guy on death row or a man who just can’t wait to smoke 100 cigarettes in a row. We’ll frankly have to take Farrelly’s word over his for now. But either way, it sounds like this one is still at least a year and a half away. The Farrelly’s are shooting the comedy, “Hall Pass” with Owen Wilson and Jenna Fischer next for presumably what will be a 2011 release.
