'Cold War' Star Joanna Kulig Joins Andre Holland In Damien Chazelle's Netflix Series 'The Eddy'

The casting for Damien Chazelle’s first TV venture, “The Eddy,” seems to be moving right along. After last week’s news that “Moonlight” and “High Flying Bird” actor Andre Holland would be the lead in the new Netflix series, we are now learning who will star opposite the actor. And as you might expect, Chazelle is bringing on someone with some musical talent to star in his jazz-based series.

Deadline is reporting that actress Joanna Kulig is set to star opposite Holland in “The Eddy.” For those that don’t know the basic story, “The Eddy” follows the life of Holland’s Elliot Udo, a former NYC jazz musician that is now living in Paris and is the owner of a club. Everything in Elliot’s life changes when his teenage daughter resurfaces and locates him in France.

Kulig is set to play Maja, one of the singers at Udo’s jazz club. Her character is said to be an incredible singer but with a drinking problem that gets her involved in not-so-great situations. Maja is said to also have an on-again, off-again relationship with Holland’s character.

Last year, Kulig broke out in a big way thanks to her role in the Oscar-nominated “Cold War.” In that film, she also got to flex her vocal abilities as a singer, and was thought by many to have a shot at earning a Best Actress nomination. She is also known for her roles in films like “Elles,” “Lasting,” and “The Innocents.” She can also be seen in the new Amazon series “Hanna.”

Production on “The Eddy” is set to begin soon in France. There’s no release date in mind, as of yet, but it’s likely going to be a 2020 premiere.
