Last Friday, the bearded enigma that is Joaquin Phoenix briefly usurped the buzz at SXSW as reports spread across the internet that the now reclusive actor turned Andy Kaufman-esque hip hop artist was returning to the big screen in “The Beautiful Cigar Girl.”
The reports, based on comments made by Oscar winning sound recordist Resul Pookutty indicated that the actor was going to be starring in the period-based film about Edgar Allan Poe’s real life investigation into the death of a society girl.
Over the weekend, reps for the actor denied reports that he was linked to the role. Bummer. We guess we’ll just wait for Phoenix’s attempt at “Illmatic” for the time being.
