Joe Carnahan's 'Groundhog Day'-Style Action Movie 'Continue' Moving Ahead At Fox

nullBack in January when Joe Carnahan was busy wrong-footing everyone with a surprisingly mature follow-up to “Smokin’ Aces” and “The A-Team” in the form of “The Grey,” he also started talking a little about what features might come next. One of those was “Continue,” which Carnahan candidly described as “ ’Groundhog Day’ as an action movie,” and “funny as shit.” But we got the feeling that as passionate as he was about that project, he had his heart set on making “Killing Pablo,” which during the same interview he described as being “the best script I’ve ever written.”

However, as much as Carnahan may dig 'Pablo,' Twitch reports that right now it's “Continue” that will be moving forward, with Fox starting to turn the gears on the project. The story will follow a former soldier forced to re-live the same day over and over while on the run from assassins trying to kill him for reasons unknown. Sounds like “Source Code” on the move to us, which was similarly described as “Groundhog Day” as an action movie this time last year.

News that this project is Carnahan’s next also suggests that his plans to write and direct a remake of Michael Winner’s controversial Charles Bronson thriller “Death Wish” are on hold for the time being. And surely, even if you don’t like the sound of “Continue,” that’s a good thing. Quite honestly, we’re hoping that if we just don’t talk about the “Death Wish” remake it might go away. “Continue” sounds like it could be interesting, but it will be down to Carnahan to make sure this distinguishes itself from “Source Code” and “Groundhog Day,” and we hope that he hasn’t compromised by making a project he’s less passionate about while his stock’s so high.
