Director Joe Wright (“The Darkest Hour“) was extremely productive last year during the pandemic and shot a new movie “Cyrano” in Noto, Sicily, with a fantastic cast that includes Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage (“I Care A Lot“), Haley Bennett (“The Magnificent Seven“), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“The Trial of The Chicago 7“), Ben Mendelsohn (“The Marsh King’s Daughter“), and Bashir Salahuddin (“Top Gun: Maverick“).

The project sees Wright return to his “Anna Karenina” roots as the new film sees Erica Schmidt adapt her stage play “Cyrano,” which itself was based on the classic 1897 play “Cyrano de Bergerac.” Allowing the filmmaker to return to a romantic costumed drama.
Vanity Fair has released a handful of first-look images (See below) and reiterates that the film is still headed towards a December 31 release, mentioning potential awards push as well.
Here is a synopsis mentioned by Vanity Fair:
“A musical that centers on a love triangle between a French Army officer named Cyrano (Dinklage), a beautiful woman named Roxanne (Bennett), and a handsome new cadet named Christian (Harrison Jr.). Cyrano is deeply in love with Roxanne but assumes she would never love him back because of his physical appearance. So when she confides in him that she is in love with Christian, Cyrano, an accomplished wordsmith, helps Christian woo her by writing letters for him to send to her.”
Members of the indie rock band The National wrote the music and lyrics for “Cyrano.” Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner handed the music, and the lyrics were written by the band’s singer, Matt Beringer.
Comedy nerds might remember the Steve Martin film “Roxanne” was loosely based on the beloved play as well. So far, “Cyrano” appears to be skipping the fall film festival circuit, but with secret screenings, as they are, you just never know.
