Joe Wright To Bring Winston Churchill's 'Darkest Hour' To The Big Screen

Pan, Joe WrightNot much has been heard from Joe Wright since his blockbuster swing and miss with last fall’s flop "Pan." The movie was so poorly received the filmmaker reportedly lost a directing job over the fiasco, but time heals all wounds, it’s a new year, and he’s got a new project cookin’ that’s perhaps much more in his wheelhouse.

Deadline reports that Wright will get behind the camera of "Darkest Hour." Penned by Anthony McCarten ("The Theory Of Everything"), the WWII set story will follow Winston Churchill as he’s pressured to make a deal with Hitler, and how he found the fortitude to keep fighting against the Third Reich. Sounds like potent, potentially awards season stuff, and this one is moving along quickly.

Production on "Darkest Hour" will begin in July, and it’ll be interesting to see who takes the part of Churchill (suggestions?). And if you need a Wright fix a bit sooner, don’t forget he’s directing an episode of the next season of "Black Mirror" that will feature Bryce Dallas Howard and Alice Eve.
