John Boyega Says He's "Moved On" From Star Wars, Adding His Disappointment With The Sequel Trilogy To The Rest Of The Main Cast

Yesterday, it was reported that Alden Ehrenreich confessed he’s unsure if he’d ever return to the “Star Wars” universe. Now it seems like another star from the galaxy far, far away confessed he’s “moved on” from the franchise, John Boyega himself.

After Boyega posted a picture on Instagram of himself preparing to return to set, a commenter suggested Finn use a green lightsaber in the next “Star Wars” film. This prompted Boyega to reply “lol no thank you. I’ve moved on.” Of course, this doesn’t mean anything in and of itself, but when seen as part of a series of negative or disappointed comments from not only Boyega, but fellow “Star Wars” sequel trilogy actors, Oscar Isaac and even Daisy Ridley, a pattern begins to form that suggests a feeling of disappointment from the cast.

When the first image of Oscar Isaac in “Dune” was released, Boyega posted a picture on Instagram where he commented “why tf we ain’t get that in Star Wars,” and in a separate occasion implied in a Tweet that we’d one day hear his true feelings on the sequel trilogy the way we’ve heard from “Game of Thrones” actors voicing their displeasure with the show’s ending.

Not that Boyega has no reason to feel disappointed with how the trilogy went. As Robert Daniels wrote for Polygon, the sequel trilogy never really knows what to do with Boyega’s Finn. It hints at an important story based on his background as a former stormtrooper, but mostly relegates him to comic relief.

With rumors of Lucasfilm wanting to take a break from the main “Star Wars” films to maybe revisit Rey, Poe and Finn down the road, it remains to be seen whether any of the main cast are actually interested in returning. As Oscar Isaac put it when asked if he’d return to the franchise, maybe if he “needs another house.”
