Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the late director John Hughes will be given a special tribute on Oscar night.
The director who raised the bar on teen comedies, and staked out his own instantly recognizable brand on countless films, passed away suddenly last summer after suffering a heart attack. Hughes was one of the most successful directors and producers but suddenly and quietly stepped away from Hollywood in the late ’90s and never looked back. Depending on the day, Hughes was either a merciless taskmaster or your best friend, but his genius for finding an authentic emotional center for his characters could never be denied. And its simply hard to imagine the work of people like Judd Apatow and Jason Reitman without the influence of Hughes.
The tribute, which will be outside the usual scroll-of-names-set-to-sad-music that highlights those who have passed in the last twelve months, will utilize film and cast members (we fully expect a Brat Pack reunion for this) and we would guess clips from his movies as well.
