There are few people that are able to sell a film based solely on their name, but Ryan Reynolds is one of those folks. After the monster success of his “Deadpool” franchise, the actor has made a brand out of his sly, sarcastic humor that is unmistakable in most every film he’s done in recent years. And because of that, Reynolds has quickly become one of those people that releases a film and audiences know exactly what they’re in for. So, when you hear the premise for “Imaginary Friends,” the latest film project that the actor has lined up, you’ll immediately recognize it as a Ryan Reynolds vehicle.
According to Deadline, Reynolds has signed on to star in “Imaginary Friends.” The film tells the story of a man that is able to communicate with his, you guessed it, imaginary friends. This is the type of project that has Reynolds written all over it. But don’t necessarily write this off as some typical comedy, as the film has some more star-power associated with it that is probably going to excite you.
The report also claims that John Krasinski has signed on to write, director, and co-star in the film. That’s right, Krasinski is stepping out of the realm of horror films to lend his name to a straight-up comedy. Obviously, the filmmaker has proven himself as a screenwriting and directing force with “A Quiet Place” and the upcoming sequel, but it’ll be nice to see him flex his comedic muscle on “Imaginary Friends.” Honestly, with “A Quiet Place” and “Jack Ryan,” it’ll be nice to see Krasinski return to comedy, with many people knowing him as Jim Halpert from “The Office.”
No word on when this film might begin production as both men are incredibly busy. Reynolds is set to release his upcoming “6 Underground” later this year and has recently announced a musical version of “A Christmas Carol” where he’ll star alongside Will Ferrell. He’s also got “Free Guy” coming next summer. Krasinski, on the other hand, is wrapping up “A Quiet Place 2” and is still involved in the aforementioned Amazon series “Jack Ryan.”
That being said, when “Imaginary Friends” does arrive in theaters, it would appear that the talent involved should be able to make this a comedy you won’t want to miss.
