I have to be honest for a second. Every week or so, Apple announces a new project with another A-list filmmaker and/or cast, and it can be a bit exhausting. Clearly, the tech company is doing everything in its power to make sure the Apple TV+ library is filled with high-profile content with big names attached, but given the recent output, the quality just isn’t there and it makes it very difficult to get excited. That being said, I can’t help but be a little excited about the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series, “Five Days at Memorial.”
According to Deadline, Apple has struck a deal with John Ridley and Carlton Cuse to develop a new limited series titled “Five Days at Memorial,” which will tell the story of a New Orleans hospital in the first five days after Hurricane Katrina made landfall. The series is based on the best-selling book, inspired by a true story, written by author Sheri Fink. The report claims that John Ridley will write and direct the first episode. Subsequent episodes will be co-written by both Ridley and Cuse, with the former also directing a number of additional installments.
Ridley is probably best known for his work as the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind “12 Years a Slave.” He’s also worked quite extensively in TV, as a writer-director for series such as “American Crime,” “Guerrilla,” and the recent “Godfather of Harlem.” In addition, he’s already signed on to develop a new series alongside singer Alicia Keyes, which is set up at Showtime.
Carlton Cuse rose to fame thanks to his work on “Lost.” Since then, he’s written and produced such shows as “Bates Motel,” “The Returned,” “The Strain,” “The Colony,” and last year’s “Locke & Key.” He is definitely no stranger to high-profile TV series.
It’s unclear when “Five Days at Memorial” will make its way to Apple TV+, but we’ll definitely keep you updated when more news is revealed.
